Ha Noi, 05/5/2017 – Viet Nam will host the Second Senior Official Meeting (SOM 2) and Related Meetings, the Multi-stakeholders Dialogue on APEC Toward 2020 and Beyond, and the High-level Policy Dialogue on Human Resources Development in the Digital Age, in Ha Noi, from May 09 to 21.
Marking half-way through the APEC Year 2017, the meetings will review the implementation of initiatives that contribute to the four priorities of APEC this year, namely “Promoting Sustainable, Innovative and Inclusive Growth”, “Deepening Regional Economic Integration”, “Strengthening MSMEs’ Competitiveness and Innovation in the Digital Age”, and “Enhancing Food Security and Sustainable Agriculture in Response to Climate Change”.
Ha Noi will play host to around 2,000 delegates, including APEC ministers and senior officials from the 21 APEC economies. Representatives of APEC Business Advisory Council (ABAC), the Pacific Economic Cooperation Council (PECC), the ASEAN Secretariat as well as leading experts from international organizations and business executives and scholars will also attend the meetings. Among invited guests will be leaders ofinternational and regional organizations, among which the ASEAN Secretary-General Le Luong Minh, the Director-General of the World Trade Organization (WTO) Roberto Avezedo, the former Director-General of the WTO Pascal Lamy…
In accordance with APEC Leaders’ instructions in 2016, the Multi-stakeholder Dialogue on APEC Towards 2020 and Beyond – an important event in the upcoming series of meetings – will be held on May 16. Around 250 government officials, business leaders, academics and the media from 21 member economies, as well as international and regional organizations will join the Dialogue. The outcomes of the Dialogue are expected to feed into the Senior Officials’ discussions on efforts to achieve the Bogor Goals of free and open trade and investment in the region by 2020, and contribute to the deliberations on the future of APEC beyond 2020.
The APEC High-level Policy Dialogue on Human Resources Development in the Digital Age will take place on May 14 – 15, focusing on the measures to be implemented by APEC to promote the development of human resource that meets the needs of the digital age.
Also on May 15, the Pacific Economic Cooperation Council (PECC), one of the three official observers of APEC, will hold its XXIV General Meeting under the theme of “Vision for an Asia-Pacific Partnership in the 21st Century”.
Building on results of more than 40 meetings, workshops and activities at working level from May 09 – 16, senior officials will meet on May 17 – 18 to review the progress of agreed work plans and projects discussed by the senior officials during the first SOM last March in Nha Trang and implementation of APEC’s core agenda and priorities.
On this occasion, the APEC Senior Finance Officials Meeting (SFOM) will meet in Ninh Binh, from May 15 to 19.
APEC delegates are invited to attend various sidelines activities held in Ha Noi and Ninh Binh to showcase the beautiful landscape and rich culture of the Northern part of Viet Nam.
