The Da Nang Beach Tourism Season 2016 will be held at the Bien Dong (East Sea) Park in Son Tra District between 29 April and 5 May.  It will become one of the city’s major cultural and sporting events celebrating National Reunification Day (30 April) and International Labour Day (1 May).

Da Nang is not holding its biennial International Fireworks Competition this year.  Therefore, the organising board of the Beach Tourism Season has developed a wide range of new exciting activities for local residents and visitors to help them fully enjoy relaxing moments on local beaches during the holiday week.

Visitors attending the Beach Festive Day from 4.00pm on 29 April can compete in various exciting games, including fishing net knitting, fish carrying, tug-of-war, and coracle racing.

In addition, sports lovers can register to take part in the 3rd kayak race named ‘Vuot Song My Khe’ (Journey from the Fall of My Khe Beach) which starts at 2.00pm on 30 April. Other activities will be held during the week to raise public awareness about environmental protection on the Son Tra Peninsula and local beaches.  These include a drawing competition about the environment and rare red-shanked douc langurs, and a ‘Beach Library’ for book lovers.

As part of this year’s season, the ‘Model Month of Civilised Beach Tourism’ programme will be officially launched at 4.30pm on 29 April to raise awareness among traders alongside the local beaches about how to improve the quality of services for their customers.

In response to the programme, the owner of Public Bathing Area No1 at Pham Van Dong Beach, Mr Ho Van Ban, said “I will install surveillance cameras in the area to ensure good management, and place compressors in bathrooms to eliminate any unpleasant odours”.

The Deputy General Director of the Da Nang-based Viet Nam Tourism Joint Stock Co (Vitours), Mr Le Tan Thanh Tung, said “The Beach Tourism Season will help to diversify local tourism products, and create a fascinating playground for visitors to the city.  Most notably, this kind of event is often introduced in tour programmes, which in turn helps to attract more visitors to the city”.

The Deputy Director of the city’s Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism, Mr Tran Chi Cuong, said “In addition to organising cultural and sporting activities for visitors, this year’s event aims to improve the quality of the city’s tourism services, maintain the friendly attitude and behaviour of service providers towards their customers at local beaches, and make the Son Tra Penisula and Da Nang’s beaches more friendly and civilised destinations”.
