Final preparations are being made for the 5th Asian Beach Games (ABG5) which will open in the city on 24 September.  Trees are being planted along Vo Nguyen Giap and Hoang Sa streets, and competition and practise facilities are nearing completion at the East Sea Park, My Khe Beach, a vacant land lot on the southern side of Pham Van Dong Street, and at the Son Thuy bathing area.

The land levelling work at these beach sports venues, using around 26,600m3 of sand, has been completed.  Now underway is the installation of 340 mobile tents, 15 viewing stands for 6,300 spectators, 18 welcome gates, 52 lighting poles, fences, flag poles, and electricity and water supply systems.  The 31.2 billion VND installation work is scheduled to be handed over to the ABG5’s organisers on 15 September.

The existing pavements along Hoang Sa, Vo Nguyen Giap and Truong Sa streets are being repaired and tiled with multi-colour terrazzo and ceramic tiles, or granite rock.  Also along these streets, any damaged drain covers or stunted trees are being replaced.  This work is also scheduled to be completed by 15 September.

The focus is now on accelerating the building of a public bathing area on the northern side of the Marble Mountains bathing area in Ngu Hanh Son District, and cleaning the construction site.

In order to ensure environmental sanitation at local beaches, along main streets and at the competition venues, the Son Tra District authorities have asked the local relevant agencies and the Marine Environmental Factory to collect rubbish during and after the ABG5.
